Alto Atacama Desert Lodge & Spa

Alto Atacama Desert Lodge & Spa is the result of years of planning based on the vision of a Chilean family to show tourists the uniqueness of this extraordinary natural diversity and its cultural value. Exploring, tasting and becoming one with the surrounding nature are the guiding principles Alto Atacama Desert Lodge & Spa was designed to fulfil. Terracotta coloured buildings built in accordance with the local architecture blend harmoniously with the impressive surrounding landscape. In-depth relaxation, an authentic Chile experience and unforgettable moments are granted.

Great importance is placed towards sustainability and an environmentally friendly tourism leaving nothing behind but footprints. The lodge stretches over seven and a half acres of land and offers holidaymakers many hidden corners in its Andean Park, which invite them to linger and enjoy the altiplanic flora and fauna. Diverse retreats that offer absolute privacy for longed-for moments of solitude with oneself and one's own thoughts can be found everywhere.

Location

The Chilean Atacama desert is considered the driest desert in the world. Nowhere can you see the stars more clearly than here. It offers vacationers a wide variety of impressions from the classical sand and stone desert which sometimes reminds of a moonscape to a salt desert, canyons, geysers and turquoise lagoons populated by flamingos. Leaving the hectic of everyday-life behind is particularly easy in this natural paradise. Alto Atacama Desert Lodge & Spa is situated at 2,500 m above sea level near San Pedro which is considered to be Chile’s archaeological capital. Holidaymakers find relicts of past civilisations here which date back about 3,000 years. San Pedro is located 100 km from Calama airport from where the guest’s transfer to the lodge is organised by the luxury hotel. Calama airport can be reached by the regular, two-hour domestic flights from Santiago International Airport operated by LAN or SKY airlines.

Rooms & Suites

Alto Atacama Desert Lodge & Spa offers a total of 42 rooms divided into three different room categories. The five Quitor Rooms offer spacious 50 qm and are located close to the community area. 27 Standard Catarpe Rooms of 51 qm are the next higher room type. A higher level of privacy is granted by their more remote location within the Lodge’s gardens. Guests enjoy a fantastic view of the salt mountains and Catarpe Valley. The most luxurious room category is the 10 Tilo Suites located near Ckepi, which means eye in the local Kunza language, which is the best spot for watching dawn, sunset and the stars. Guests of the Tilo Suites are welcomed with a cheese board, champagne and fresh fruits in the room. They also enjoy a 20% discount on all spa treatments.

Restaurant & Bars

Within the local Likan Antai language Caur, the restaurant’s name, means hills and thus is in perfect harmony with the hotel premises’ setting. In- and outdoors’ finest culinary experiences with a regional twist, based on organic ingredients, are served. Tasteful Chilean wines round-off the fine-dining experiences.

Spa & Wellness

Six outdoor pools and a whirlpool offer relaxation with a view. Puri Spa was selected by Spa Finder amongst the top eight spas in whole Latin America and voted number one spa in Chile. Puri Spa’s guests enjoy relaxing treatments like massages and facials or use wellness facilities like sauna and Turkish bath. The Spa is partially built into the ground offering a perfect hideaway from the hot desert sun. Those who are up for special spa experiences should opt for those treatments based on local formula like the quinoa facial or the altiplanic mud pack.

Leisure Activities

With its more than 30 different types of excursions Atacama Desert comes up with a wide variety of things to do, serving nature lovers and archaeological interested guests as well as the adventurous ones. Besides the remote location far away from big city lights and air pollution it offers perfect conditions for stargazing which the lodge provides an own telescope for. It’s a “must do” to get to know the desert during one of the tours guided by passionate local guides. Tourists can do so by walking, cycling or horse-back riding depending on personal preferences. Excursions going through sand and stone deserts sometimes appear like a moonscape but also show canyons and geysers and the salt desert just to end up in turquoise blue lagoons crowded with flamingos. The hotel premises and its surroundings also make the heart of every (hobby)-ornithologist beat faster. In addition the lodge is always happy to arrange individual experiences tailor-made for any special desires of i.e. honeymooners or adrenalin fans. An absolutely unforgettable experience is a balloon ride across the Atacama Desert.
