The five-star hotel Abadía Retuerta LeDomaine is situated in the historic walls of a former 12th-century monastery of the Premonstratensians. It is picturesquely embedded in the surrounding and associated 210 hectares of vineyards along the River Duero in one of the best wine regions in Spain, the Sardón de Duero, about two hours drive to the northwest of Madrid. Location

Abadía Retuerta LeDomaine is located in the north of Spain in the region of Castilla y León. Situated in the wine region Ribera del Duero, on the riverside of Douro River, the hotel is surrounded by its 210 hectare vineyard landscape. Madrid is a two-hour drive from the hotel. Zimmer & Suiten

The classic design of the 27 double rooms and 3 suites fits perfectly into the quiet atmosphere of the historic monastery. The rooms feature stuccoed ceilings, walnut wood furniture, oak parquet and, depending on the room type, French double or four-poster beds with Carrara marble or stone-mosaic bathrooms. All rooms have a fantastic view of the surrounding vineyards. Eight of the double rooms are located in the former horse stables of the abbey with direct access to the new wellness and spa area, the Santuario Wellness & Spa.

Restaurant & Bars

Culinary experiences on highest level in the midst of a unique backdrop, that is what Abadia Retuerta LeDomaine is all about. The Michelin-starred Refectorio restaurant in the courtyard of the cloister delights guests with creations by Chef Marc Segarra, who creatively combines traditional cuisine with fresh, local ingredients. The surrounding of LeDomaine is rich in culinary raw ingredients that guarantee varied menus and an outstanding "standard of excellence". All dishes are matched with the fine wines produced on the estate and stored in the wine cellar next to the restaurant. Some of their wines, for example their best-known wine worldwide Selección Especial, their also internationally award-winning Tempranillo Pago Negralada and their white wine LeDomaine Blanco, which is made from Sauvignon Blanc grapes that were planted 20 years ago and enriched with a hint of Verdejo and other white wines, lay all between 92 and 95 Parker points and thus rank among the category "outstanding wines". History and gastronomy merge to a new dimension at Abadía Retuerta LeDomaine. Symbolic of this is also the preserved depiction of the Last Supper of the 17th century, which embellishs the impressive room as a fresco. Creative interpretations of tapas and small dishes are served along with unique wines by Abadía Retuerta in the Vinoteca. You can enjoy them on the terrace of the monastery garden, in the Jardín del Claustro, in the summer months. Also in summer there is a pool bar available for guests.

Spa & Wellness

Covering more than 10,000 square meters, the sustainable Santuario Wellness & Spa is located in the former horse stables of the abbey Santa María de Retuerta. Thermal energy of natural origin is used for heat and energy supply and own water extracted from a well that has 120 meters of depth, decalcified and stored after being transferred to a reverse osmosis, in a 120,000 liter tank. In addition, care was taken to ensure that the impressive, historical environment is maintained during the conversion. The spa features facilities such as a Finnish sauna, steam room, whirlpool, relaxation room overlooking the light-flooded courtyards, adventure showers, an indoor pool with a waterfall and four treatment rooms, and a private spa suite for couples. Winery Abadía Retuerta

Extremely impressive are the partially highly awarded wines of the Abadía Retuerta. Especially considering that the winegrowing has been resumed only since 1996. The replanting of the vineyards, the construction of the winery and its management were realized by the professor at the Technical University of Madrid Vicente Sotés and the well-known French oenologist Pascal Delbeck. Pascal Delbeck is still in the supervisory board of Abadía Retuerta. The extreme climate with cold winters and hot summers, low rainfall and many hours of sunshine, as well as the multilayered terrain offer excellent conditions for viticulture. The winery Abadía Retuerta consists of 54 plots, each with different mineral contents and different water absorption or water storage of the soil, a very diverse terroir. Mainly vines of Tempranillo (70%), Cabernet Sauvignon (10%), Syrah (10%), Merlot, Petit Verdot and Sauvignon Blanc are grown here. Angel Anocibar is the technical director from Abadía Retuerta since his appointment by Pascal Delbeck in 1996. He is a renowned grape grower and winemaker whose prestige and extensive experience is widely recognized. At the International Wine Challenge competition in London he was selected “Winemaker of the Year” in September 2005 and he is the only Spanish oenologist to hold a PhD in oenology and ampelography awarded by the University of Bordeaux. The commitment of the winery for technology, research and innovation can be seen, for example, in their self-developed and patented ecological, gravitation-led winemaking method, in which the grapes are processed more natural and gentler.
